As part of the Sacred Heart Haiti Outreach program, a group of current and former students from Knoxville Catholic High School spent a week at Sacred Heart’s sister parish,  St. Michael’s Parish in Boucan Carre, Haiti.  The students painted the local high school, one of two Haitian schools built and funded by Knoxville’s Haiti Outreach program, and played a soccer match against the local students before more than 100 curious fans in the small town.

The trip also included a grueling hike over the mountains–crossing the river seven times with no bridge–to the remote village of Bouly, the site of a new clinic that will provide health care for the first time to several thousand residents of the mountain region.  Built by the Haiti Outreach program, the clinic will have a nurse available three days each week under an agreement signed during the trip among Sacred Heart, St. Michael’s and Caritas, a worldwide Catholic social services agency.

The Haiti Outreach Program will be hosting their annual Medical Benefit in early 2016. Please contact Ann Pierce to get involved with the great work the program is doing. Learn more at GiveHaitiHope.org.
