On Saturday, after more than four years of planning, our vision for a new Cathedral is taking shape and becoming a reality, said Father David Boettner. Along with Mary Mac Wilson, Director of Parish Operations, “who has helped to guide this project and keep it moving forward with great joy.” Great weather and the beautiful spirit of our community combined with the music ministry of Glenn Kahler and Robert McCarter made for a perfect celebration for the Laying of the Cornerstone Ceremony. With over 350 members of the Sacred Heart Community in attendance to see the unveiling of the cornerstone for the Cathedral of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, which Fr. Boettner reminds us that, “The cornerstone which is that reference point and symbolizes for us Christ as the reference point of our lives…is an important moment in the construction moment of a Cathedral.” Fr. Boettner was elated when speaking about the turnout. “Today, we were able to share that with people from all over the diocese. It was one of the things I was very excited to see were the faces of parishioners from Elizabethton, in upper North East Tennessee, we had folks from Chattanooga…So we had a great representation of the Diocese of Knoxville as well as the parishioners of the Cathedral Parish here today to celebrate this great milestone.”
Fr. Boettner added, “In short, we have an amazing team, and we are blessed with an abundance of riches when it comes to our staff and volunteers. I am also grateful to all of our staff and faculty who took some time to celebrate with the diocese as we mark this milestone along the way to our new Cathedral. You were a part of making history today.”
