Congratulations, to our newest Acolyte, Seminarian Wojciech (Wojtek) Sobczuk. Today at the Noon Mass, Bishop Stika instituted him as an acolyte. As the General Instructions of the Roman Missal (GRIM) says in paragraph 98. “The acolyte is instituted for service at the altar and to assist the Priest and Deacon. It is his place principally to prepare the altar and the sacred vessels and, if necessary, to distribute the Eucharist to the faithful as an extraordinary minister. In the ministry of the altar, the acolyte has his own proper functions (cf. nos. 187-193), which he must carry out in person.” As we have seen Wojtek before serving at Mass, we look forward to seeing him more often as an acolyte serving at the altar and distributing communion at Mass.

Also, Wojtek will be staying with us the Cathedral as an inter seminarian. He will be working closely with the priests here and with our parish community as well. Wojtek was born in1995 in Oswiecim (Auschwitz), in the southern part of Poland. He was the firstborn child and has two younger brothers – Marcin (16 years old) and David (12 years old). His parents, siblings, and grandparents (who lived in his family home) are the closest people to Wojtek, and they set great examples for him to follow in life. Congratulations Wojtek!
